Philosophy Statement.

At Beginnings we believe the journey of lifelong learning begins at home and we feel very privileged to be part of each child’s journey. Here at Beginnings we strive to embrace a whanaungatanga approach that encompasses each individual, whānau and the community. The professional team of teachers bring diversity in life experience and opportunities to the centre. We believe that children learn holistically through play in a loving, caring environment where they are encouraged to make their own choices to experiment and explore. Teachers value the importance of being responsive to children’s strengths and interests.

Our Services are listed below

Service Hours.

We are open for your convenience from 7.30am until 6:00pm, Monday to Friday. We are closed all statutory and public holidays. The centre is closed for two weeks over the Christmas break.

Routines / Rhythms.

If your child is still in nappies, please supply an adequate amount each day for their needs. We will sensitively support children and their whanau during the process of toilet training in a respectful and unhurried manner.

Our programme is guided by Te Whāriki, the New Zealand curriculum for early childhood education. Our children’s learning growth is celebrated through the holistic learning strands of Belonging, Well-being, Communication, Contribution and Exploration. Children’s strengths, interests and learning dispositions are celebrated within an environment that encourages the children actively participate in their learning journey.

For children who still require a nap during the day, we will work with each child’s established routines to provide consistency and continuity. Your child is welcome to bring a comfort item from home to support the settling process and sleep routine.

Food / Meal Times.

Our cook prepares well-balanced and nutritious meals daily for the children, with an emphasis on seasonal fresh fruit and vegetables. If your child requires specialist dietary requirements, please discuss your child’s needs with staff. Please provide formula or breast milk for your infant child, otherwise the centre can provide standard milk for children who require it.

At meal times we encourage the children to participate in Grace/Karakia. At Beginnings we celebrate Birthdays, Christmas and Easter. Please inform us if you don’t celebrate any of these, or if you celebrate any other religious/cultural traditions.
